On the 24th of December an emergency session of the congress of the school sports and Olympic education federation of Serbia was held in Niš. At the session it was unanimously decided that:

1. The president of the honorary committee of the VIII Student Olympic sport games of Serbia be Mr. Oliver Dulić, Parliamentary speaker for the Republic of Serbia.
2. The president of the Organization committee of the VIII Student Olympic sport games of Serbia be Mrs. Snežana Samardžić Marković, Minister of the youth and sports cabinet for the Republic of Serbia.

Sremska Mitrovica has announced its candidacy to host the IX Student Olympic sport games of Serbia which will be held in 2012...

On the 25th of December 2007. a working meeting was held in Niš, participants included: the minister of the youth and sports cabinet for the Republic of Serbia, Snežana Samardžić Marković, the deputy minister of the youth and sports cabinet, Slaviša Zlatanović, the superintendant for the board of education, culture and sports for Niš, Nenad Gašević, the secretary general for the sports federation Niš, Nadica Ivković, the president of the School Sports And Olympic Education Federation of Serbia, Željko Tanasković, the secretary general for the School Sports And Olympic Education Federation of Serbia, Slobodan Čičanović, Jovica Zdravković Jovica Jovanović, the president and secretary for the school sports federation of Niš. After the meeting the president of the Organization committee of the VIII Student Olympic Sport Games of Serbia the minister, Mrs. Snežana Samardžić Marković, held a press conference on which she gave her unreserved support for the VIII Student Olympic games of Serbia:

" The VIII Student Olympic games of Serbia are one of the most important events in the next year for the city of Niš, as well as for the ministry of youth and sports. Around 6000 athletes will gather in Niš, which will be the center for youth and sports of our country during these six days.

An Olympic year lies ahead of us, which is important not only for the athletes who will compete in the far away Beijing, but also for our students who will contend here in Niš, in thirteen different disciplines.

The ministry for youth and sports and the government of the republic of Serbia have supported this competition with all of its strength. I have accepted to be the head of the organization committee of this significant manifestation, because it promotes practicing sports with our younger citizens and it familiarizes them with the Olympic values - Understanding, the spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. My wish as the minister of youth and sports is for these values, which sport bears in itself, to be recognized by the whole community and present them together to children and young people as the only true path of maturation.

School sports take a special place in the sport development strategy whose working version was finished on the 14th of December and whose acknowledgement we expect in the first half of 2008. One of the primary goals of the ministry of youth and sports is exactly the improvement of school sports and to include more children in sports."

The importance of the VIII Student Olympic games of Serbia is stressed by the fact that the representative of the European Commission Delegation for Serbia - Mr. Aleksandar Đorđević, PR Advisor attended the meeting and the press conference. He stressed that the European Union has recognized the Student Olympic games of Serbia as one of the most positive steps which are leading us to a faster integration into Europe. So with the beginning of next year a contract concerning sponsorship for this remarkable sport manifestation will be signed.

 

 

 

At the coordinator meeting, which was held in Belgrade on the 22nd of October 2007, a program and timetable were made for the competitions concerning the VIII Olympic student games for the republic of Serbia. A piece of fresh news is that on the VIII OSIŠOS there will be a tournament in two new disciplines: tennis and judo for students from primary school. The host for the republic competitions in handball and volleyball for the 91. and 92. generation have been determined. More on this ...

The champions from the 91. and 92. generation will compete in the world handball championship, which will be held in: Ikast - Brand in Denmark from the 29 th of March to the 6 th of April 2008.

The World Volleyball Championship, in which the 91-92. generation republic champions will participate, is to be held in Cagliari Italy from the 10. to the 18. of May 2008.
